Over the past two years, Will Jones has been involved extensively with the Queen's University sailing program. After joining the competitive keel boat team two years ago, being named starting driver, winning back-to-back National Championships, Will Jones and the Queen's Sailing Team won the Student Yachting World Cup hosted in La Rochelle, France. They have become the first Canadian team in history to win this highly competitive championship. Each year universities across each country compete to represent at SYWoC. Jones and team had consistent top 4 performances all five days of the event and, after moving into first with two bullets, were able to defend their lead the final day. As this was Will's last year with the team, he exclaim, "best way to end my time...". Congratulations to Will and the entire Queen's Sailing Team on this amazing achievement.
This is a huge momentum push for the SPIN sailing team as they lead into their biggest competitions to date. The team has the skill set to compete at the Olympic level and are confident they will be able to prove it at the 49er Junior Worlds in Kingston, Ontario during the summer of 2017. The initiative and passion the team has for this sport has been adding up over the past year of training and is starting to show itself, first with Will Jones' first World Championship win. With the support of our followers and our increasing focus, we are determine to have quality performances in the upcoming year.
